SPIRITUAL
DIRECTION
THE DETAILS
1:1 Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction explores the often rugged and untamed terrain or "wildscape" of our soul/inner being/real self which invites curiosity, courage, and compassion. It is a supportive conversation, exploring and deepening your connection to Holy Mystery/God/Divine Source/Love/Presence/Creator, however you name this for yourself.
Spiritual Direction is a journey of rewilding yourself; befriending fears, braving uncertainty, finding purpose and feeling more at home in the wild beauty of your "one wild and precious" life.
A few reasons to explore spiritual direction:
-
Vocational Discernment & Transition
-
Shifting Beliefs, Spiritual Connection
-
Seeking Purpose and Meaning
-
Soul Nurture and Self-Discovery
Walk & Talk Sessions
A Walk & Talk is a spiritual direction conversation that takes place outdoors. We move at a slow pace, allowing time for silence and to connect with nature. Walk & Talks may feel less intimidating than indoor sessions but involve more variables such as weather, other walkers and their furry companions and outside noise. Walk & Talks are ideally suited for those who love to move; those who seek a deeper connection with the land as a wise teacher and guide.
For our first session we will meet at at the Mike Schout Wetlands Preserve in New Hamburg, Ontario. Other locations involve more rural and nature immersive routes. Walk & Talks can be thoughtfully designed to accommodate individuals of all mobility levels.
A Heart for Spiritual Leaders
As someone who served as a pastor for 25 years, I deeply understand the unique challenges pastors face when they need a space to process their own spiritual struggles or seek guidance on how to lead well. In those moments, where does a pastor turn? Going to someone within the church can create vulnerability, risking their role or reputation. As your spiritual director, I offer a confidential and understanding space—one where you can speak freely with someone who not only knows the life of a pastor but also understands the intricacies of church leadership.

Research increasingly shows that our spiritual well-being is deeply intertwined with our mental, emotional, and physical health. Studies have demonstrated that spiritual practices can reduce stress, improve emotional resilience, and enhance overall well-being.
As an employer or community leader, if you're looking to support your staff or volunteer team, foster stronger connections, and build resilience within your organization, I would love the opportunity to connect with you and explore how spiritual well-being can play a key role in your team's growth and success.

What is the difference between spiritual direction, coaching & therapy?Spiritual Direction/Companionship: A supportive relationship in which you explore and cultivate your inner life, spiritual practices, and sense of purpose. Coaching: A partnership focused on achieving personal goals and enhancing growth. Therapy: Professional support to address emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges.
-
Do spiritual directors direct people? No, spiritual directors do not direct people, instead they help them become more aware of God's presence in their lives. They listen, encourage, ask questions, notice, wonder, celebrate, witness, companion and at times guide. I see myself as a co-adventurer and spiritual companion. I will walk alongside you as a deep listener and as a witness, inviting you to trust the wisdom within, paying attention to whatever arises, offering compassion and encouragement when navigating rocky terrain.
-
What do you mean by spiritual?I believe that humans are deeply spiritual beings who are deeply connected to something larger than themselves. Each person is unique and each person has a unique gift they offer to the world. Whether you come from an traditional faith tradition or place yourself in the spiritual but not religious category, I will hold space as you explore what spirituality means to you. Spiritual Direction offers a contemplative space that gives yourself permission to slow down enough to notice this compassionate Presence in your everyday life, opening yourself to experience gratitude, joy and awe.

What does a spiritual direction session look like?A spiritual direction session is usually a 60 minute in-person or virtual conversation. The session begins with a silence or grounding practice to slow us down and help us to come into presence. When you are ready, I will ask you where you would like to begin. No preparation needed, trust that you will know what you need to bring to the surface. I simply listen and ask questions that invite deepening. Sometimes we will hold silence together, other times we will invite our imagination or felt sense to guide us. Both in-person and virtual meetings are sacred space to experience the movement of the divine in our everyday life experiences.

What is embodied spirituality? Many of us spend a lot of time "in our heads"; thinking, planning, and at times worrying and ruminating. Embodied spirituality is about connecting your body, heart, and spirit in a deep, meaningful way. It’s not just something to think about or feel in your head—it’s something you experience through your body and how you interact with the world. It’s the divine energy within you, flowing through you and influencing how you walk, breathe, and love. "Embodiment can be simply defined as living life informed through the sense experience of the body." - Ann Saffi Biasetti
“Paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world, receiving the gifts with open eyes and open heart.”
